Some times we feel not to do anything or feel very low, lazy, frustrated that we don't even feel to wake up from sleep and start daily chores the situation gets so irritating sometimes that we just get annoyed when our parents, friends say even little things which makes us angry and irritated without having any valid reason. Even if someone says Hey How are you ? or parents say take bath !! we get so annoyed that we just burst on them... This is not the case that we intentionally get angry on them but sometimes we just can't handle our emotions wisely. The lack of motivation reduces our productivity which in turn affect our professional life and causes stress which leads to unhealthy personal life. Deficiency of motivation leads to low energy and low self-esteem.
So what causes a lack of motivation?
- We don't have a goal in life or we have a goal in life which is not SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) enough.
- We are exhausted from daily life.
- We fear change
- We are impatient
- We have an unhealthy lifestyle
- We try to please everyone around
- We settle for less
These are some of the reasons or causes of lack of motivation in life. which look small but indeed contribute to shaping our mind to attain a negative mindset. Overcoming the above-mentioned reasons will definitely help in gaining that motivation back and setting that fire inside to do something and feel energized like never before.
What can be done to overcome these causes? Let's move point by point
- We don't have a goal in life or we have a goal in life which is not SMART enough:
The setting a goal in life is very important or our life may get on the wrong track as we don't know what is our ultimate destination. so setting a specific, measurable, relevant and time-bound goal is very important.
- We are exhausted from daily life:
We should plan our schedule and manage time wisely and give our-self time for relaxation for at least 2-5 minutes in a day during work and perform simple deep breathing exercises for a while even can be done during lunchtime before eating a meal.
- Fear of change:
Everyone fears change we don't want something different than the daily lifestyle we fear to change somethings even if they are for our betterment still we limit ourselves. As it is rightly said by Shonda Rhimes
"You can waste your lives by drawing lines or you can live your life crossing them."
which means we set a boundary for ourselves and live life accordingly within those boundaries but if we cross our limits yes obviously in a positive way we can excel in life and enjoy life to its fullest.
- We are impatient:
It is true that today's generation is impatient they need quick results in minimum efforts. But we know the rule every action has equal and opposite reaction stated by Sir Issac Newton which can be applied as giving 100% effort in whatever we are doing we will get 100% result definitely. Since gaining result is long term process we have to be patient there and sometimes indirect parameters such as work pressure, peer pressure expecting unrealistic result may lead to impatience these parameters are needed to be controlled by practicing meditation and keeping mind calm.
- We have an unhealthy lifestyle:
Our eating habits, diet plays an important role in our life. The micro and macro-nutrients which we get from properly balanced diet play a vital role in boosting our energy and immunity levels when our body feel energized from inside we don't need any outside motivation.
- We try to please everyone around:
While we try to please everyone we lose ourselves in turning into some which are way more different from the person we are in actual. This leads to unnecessary stress. It's a very good feeling to be yourself rather than changing as per peoples need and convenience.
- We settle for less:
We have to be very thoughtful while choosing for ourselves and make sure that we are not getting less than what we deserve. It is so strange that while buying a gift for others we choose the best premium quality things and for us, we get satisfied in buying normal quality things which there itself shows how much we value ourselves. So settling for less than we deserve is not affordable for our life and should not be the option for us. This indirectly affects our mind and creates a mindset that I m getting less than what I deserve and lead to prolonged stress-causing lack of motivation in doing the work.
Overcoming these simple causes will definitely change our lives and will make it better than it was before giving lots and lots of positive vibes and creating a positive mindset.
Motivation is the only thing which pushes us towards our aims and goals in life. I have seen people waking up reading motivational quotes listening motivational videos and starting work for the day and end up feeling loss of motivation and loss of energy till afternoon but, actually, motivation is not prerequisite to begin a day rather than it should be used at the end of the day where we actually need motivation when we are already drained off from daily activities using a motivation to kick start your day is the worst thing because you don't have that raging inner fire to wake up and we depend on the materialistic things to get motivated. Motivation should rise from within ourselves from the bottom of our heart and this motivation is long-lasting it doesn't needs to get recharged timely.....
